French Employment Law - French Law & RTT (reduction of working time)

The French statute relating to the « Réduction du temps de travail or RTT », or, in translation, ‘reduction in working time’ was adopted on 17 January 2003, and presented as something of a palliative to the rather sudden introduction of the 35 hour working week in 2000/2002.

Its most marked effect was initially perceived to bring about a slight dilution of the 35 hour working week provisions in that the new law allowed certain undertakings to maintain a 39 hour working week.
